About Change Management

Change Management is a methodology – made up of processes, tools, and techniques – to guide people through change in order to more effectively achieve a business or project outcome. Having a change management plan intertwined with a project management plan will help lead the “people side of change” and create a greater likelihood of success whether the change initiative is a process, system, organizational structure, or during a strategic realignment.

While there are many Change Management paradigms, UC San Diego has established trainings and developed practitioners using the Prosci ADKAR Model for individual change to drive organizational transformation. The ADKAR model for change measures, trains, and plans for the following:

  • Awareness of the need for change
  • Desire to participate and support the change
  • Knowledge on how to change
  • Ability to implement required skills and behaviors
  • Reinforcement to sustain the change
